Course Outline

This course is the continuation of the basic Cat® D3500 Diesel Engine Systems Operations and Maintenance course. Building on the knowledge acquired from the basic Cat D3500 Diesel Engine course, participant will be exposed to more advanced maintenance tasks and troubleshooting for the Cat D3500 Diesel Engine engine. Emphasis is being placed on hands-on diagnostic repair procedures on Cat D3500 Diesel Engine.

Participants who satisfy assessment requirements will be issued certificates.

Pre-requisites

  1. Attended Cat D3500 Diesel Engine Systems Operations & Maintenance Training
  2. Working experience on Cat D3500 Diesel Engine Systems
  3. Possess basic knowledge of electricity, DC circuits and Schematic

Course Objectives

  1. Understand the functions / workings of electronic components of Cat D3500 Diesel Engine Systems.
  2.  Able to use engine schematic diagrams to perform engine diagnostics and repairs.
  3. Familiarise with the Cat D3500 Diesel Engine Software Features and perform Software Configuration.
  4. Competent with engine functional checks using the Electronic Instrument Panel (EIP)
  5. Familiarise with features of the ET Tool and use them to perform advanced engine performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
  6. Carry out Removal & Install of components: one cylinder head assembly unit and one piston assembly.

Course Schedule

Day 1
  1. Cat D3500 Diesel Engine MEUI Fuel Electronic Control System.
  2. Function of electronic components on Cat D3500 MEUI Engine.
  3. Cat D3500 Diesel Engine Software Features.
  4. Software Configurations.
  5. Engine Performing Factors.
  6. Wiring Schematics & locating electronic components on Cat D3500 Diesel Engine.
  7. Wire maintenance & Diagnostic Tooling usage.
Day 2
  1. Introduction to Customer Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) service tool.
  2. Features on ET Settings, Information Menu, Diagnostic tests & Data logging.
  3. Perform ET diagnostic tests, Parameter Configuration, Monitoring System, Data logging & Calibrations.
  4. Exploration of Open/Short Circuit conditions in sensors
Day 3
  1. Removal of one cylinder head assembly.
  2. Removal of one piston assembly.
  3. Re-Install of piston assembly.
  4. Re-Install of cylinder head assembly.
  5. Valve clearance adjustment and Injector height setting.
Day 4
  1. Completion of re-installation.
  2. Review Cat D3500 Diesel Engine
  3. Engine troubleshooting process and the various troubleshooting techniques using the diagnostic/service tools.
  4. Troubleshooting of “bugs” on Cat D3500 training engine.
Day 5
  1. Review on troubleshooting finding and recommendation.
  2. Quiz.
  3. Q&A.
