Attendance & Assessment
Personnel attending this course should possess a fundamental understanding of Caterpillar engines operation and "hands-on" experience in product repairs. The course participants should hold a Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology and have experience with diesel engine operation and repair procedures including large engine experience.
Participants are asked to bring work clothing and safety footwear to class as over 60% of this course will be in the workshop. Participants will also need to bring a calculator to class.
Course Equivalents
VILT-C175 Engine Training (55930) and C175 Engine Training Hands – On (55931) courses are equivalent to the C175 Engine Training ILT (32302).
Course Outline
The C175 Engine Training Course is intended for Cat Dealer Service Technicians, Service Training Instructors, Technical Communicators and Customer Technicians who have a basic knowledge and experience of the topic. Participants should also possess at least basic English language (oral and written) skills. This course focuses on a comprehensive overview of engine operation with a detailed look at all engine systems including air intake & exhaust, lubrication, cooling and fuel.
Topics include:
- Remove and replace quill tubes
- Flow limiters
- Injectors
- Piston packs
- Main bearings
- Connecting rod bearings
- High-pressure fuel pump
- Basic principles in leak detection
- Troubleshooting of the fuel system.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Identify location for sensors and engine components
- Remove and install injectors, injector trim files, quill tubes and flow limiters
- Determine reusability of fuel system components
- Remove and replace main bearings, piston packs, connecting rod bearings and high-pressure fuel pumps
- Troubleshoot fuel system leaks and/or failures.
